A contemporaneidade destaca a necessidade de um olhar para a diferença e a diversidade, em um discurso de promoção e aceitação do que se concebe por estes conceitos, entretanto existem ainda barreiras que precisam ser transpostas, em particular ao que se trata da surdez e do indivíduo surdo. Os surdos durante os diversos períodos da história foram colocados à margem do mundo econômico, social, cultural, educacional e político, sendo considerados como deficientes, incapazes e desapropriados de seus direitos e da possibilidade de escolhas. Este estudo teve por objetivo investigar as possibilidades e os entraves do processo de inclusão da Língua Brasileira de Sinais (LIBRAS). A pesquisa de cunho bibliográfico, teve por finalidade trazer para a centralidade o debate relacionado à inclusão da Libras na área da saúde. A relevância deste estudo está em esboçar o papel social desta oportunidade, em relação à inclusão do sujeito surdo no que tange ao atendimento das políticas públicas inclusivas e assim apresentar dados sobre as questões que venham de encontro às efetivas ações para a garantia da aplicação da legislação dos direitos do sujeito surdo no âmbito da área da saúde.

Contemporaneity highlights the need for a look at difference and diversity, in a discourse of promotion and acceptance of what is conceived by these concepts, however there are still barriers that need to be transposed, in particular to what is deafness and the individual deaf. The deaf during the various periods of history were placed on the fringes of the economic, social, cultural, educational and political world, being considered as disabled, incapable and expropriated of their rights and the possibility of choices. The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibilities and obstacles of the inclusion process of the Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS). The bibliographical research was aimed at bringing to the centrality the debate related to the inclusion of Libras in the health area. The relevance of this study is to outline the social role of this opportunity, in relation to the inclusion of the deaf subject in regard to the attendance of the public policies inclusive and thus to present data on the issues that come against the effective actions to guarantee the application of the legislation of deaf subjects in the area of health.
